Sick of Pretending She’s Talented

February 16, 2018 by The Yak Leave a Comment

Dear Yak,

We recently bought a fabulous new stainless steel fridge that cost a bomb. So now I’m banning my 5-year-old daughter’s artwork from the fridge door unless she lifts her drawing and colouring-in standards.

My husband thinks I’m being unreasonable, but it’s all about appearances. What’s the point of a shiny new fridge if it’s covered with crappy drawings?

Yours sincerely,

State of the Art

Dear State of the Art,

Personally I don’t think you’re being tough enough.

Your daughter needs some proper encouragement to lift her game. Tell her that if her artistic abilities don’t improve you’ll put her up for adoption. You could even jot down some adoption website addresses on a piece of paper and leave it where she’ll find it, like next to her bed. But be gentle about it. Don’t mess with her head. Give her at least two weeks to improve.

Hope this helps.

With kind regards,

The Yak
