Asking The Yak

Asking The Yak

Dear Yak,
What’s the correct etiquette when you hit a pedestrian with your car?
Should you make eye contact with them through the windscreen as they bounce off the bonnet? And if so, should you give them a sympathetic look to show you understand their pain? Or should you glare at them for getting in your way and potentially denting your car?

Yours sincerely, Greatest Hits

Dear Greatest Hits,

Never make eye contact. Especially as they’re bouncing off the bonnet. That can be awkward.

However, as you drive on, it is acceptable to glance back in your rear vision mirror to where they’ve landed on the side of the road. This shows you’re a caring citizen and responsible driver. If they’re still moving, a loud blast of the horn should communicate your feelings to them. Especially if they’ve dented your car.

Hope this helps.

With kind regards,

The Yak
