I manage an inner-city childcare centre and I’m worried about one of my charges.
He’s quite a sweet little boy, very well-mannered and good with the other kids. But I’ve seen him acting out some inappropriate behaviour. He likes to arrange the white sugar into small lines with a coloured pencil then snort them up his nostril with a straw! When I asked him what he was doing he said something about “mummy’s little helper”.
Oh Yak, I feel a strong responsibility to report this behaviour to the authorities. But part of me is thinking of cultivating a friendship with this boy’s mum. My own dealer has just been busted and it’s party season right now so I’m a bit desperate. What should I do?
High and Dry
Dear High and Dry,
I’m completely shocked and outraged! People like you with such a cavalier attitude towards the health and wellbeing of innocent children should not be in positions of trust and authority. Exactly what kind of childcare centre are you running?
There are certain things that young children should never be exposed to, and the main one is sugar! Especially white sugar! Don’t you know there’s a childhood obesity epidemic?
Shame. Shame. Shame.
With kind regards,
