I’ve just bought a really good quality golf umbrella – carbon-fibre spokes, UV protection, wind resistant, the works. Cost me $90. The trouble is, I’m reluctant to leave it unattended in umbrella bins in the foyers of buildings for fear of it being nicked. What can I do?

Dear Under the Weather,
Yes I do see your dilemma. But don’t forget, it cuts both ways. What if you spotted a sexy new $800 duomatic Burberry Nubuck, ivory-handled ostrich skin umbrella in a bin? It’d be a perfect opportunity for you to upgrade. It’s a jungle out there and those umbrella bins are a free market.
But to be honest, I don’t know why you bother spending so much money on an umbrella in the first place. Personally, I never invest very much in anything that’s really easy to lose. You know, umbrellas… sunglasses… dignity… it’s just simple economics. Ya dig?
Hope this helps.
With kind regards,
