Our next door neighbour has recently become a “nudist”. Twice last week he was pottering in his back yard completely naked! He looked like a turtle without its shell. Now I’m no prude, but I think a man of his age (over 70) should be conducting himself with more dignity. And I’m not being “politically incorrect” or “ageist” because I’m in my 70s too.
So now I’m afraid to go into my own back yard to hang the washing on the line in case he wants to chat over the fence. What can I do? And why is it that most nudists are people who really shouldn’t be naked?
Shock and Exposure
Dear Shock and Exposure,
A turtle without its shell isn’t naked – it’s homeless. Show some sensitivity please.
Personally it sounds like you’re just jealous of your neighbour’s new-found freedom. You secretly wish you had the guts to go outside to your clothesline au naturel. But then again, this might invite unkind jokes about blending in with the washing and looking like something else that needs ironing.
Btw, have you ever noticed how the word ‘naked’ implies it’s acceptable, but ‘nude’ sounds like it isn’t? Neither have I.
Hope this helps.
With kind regards,
